Our US West datacenter, elfhosted.cc, lives in our provider's facility in Spokane, Washington. They've scheduled a full rebuild of the Spokane network for late October, and while that work is under way, apps hosted on elfhosted.cc will be offline.

If you're on elfhosted.cc, you have two options: ride it out (possibly for up to a day), or move your apps to another datacenter before it starts. Moving is free and takes you about ten minutes.

What's happening, and when ๐Ÿ“…

  • The maintenance window: Tuesday 27 October, 15:00 UTC to Saturday 31 October, 15:00 UTC (that's 8am to 8am, Pacific time).
  • The outage itself: our provider expects the work to take "several hours" somewhere inside that window, with a full outage while it's happening. The last time they did similar work, it took about a day, so we'd plan for up to 24 hours offline.
  • The exact time: our provider will confirm a narrower window before work starts. When they do, we'll update this post and let you know in Discord.

Only elfhosted.cc is affected. Not sure which datacenter you're on? Your app addresses end in it, or check My Account โ†’ Datacenter.

The provider's notice is here: Planned Network Downtime โ€“ Spokane.

Will I lose anything? ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

No. This is network work: the servers holding your apps and data stay put, and nothing is deleted. While the network is down, your apps simply can't be reached, and they can't reach the internet either. So streaming, Stremio addons, searches, downloads and syncs all stop until it's over. When the network comes back, your apps are reachable again without you doing anything. Most apps retry their scheduled jobs on their next run.

Option 1: ride it out ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

Do nothing. If up to a day offline sometime in that window is fine for you, there's nothing to prepare.

Option 2: move to another datacenter first ๐Ÿงณ

If you'd rather not be offline, move your apps before Tuesday 27 October. It's free and self-service, with about 10 to 15 minutes of downtime while your apps restart in their new home. Follow the guide:

How to migrate datacenters

Before you click, a few things worth knowing (the guide covers each one):

  • Back up first if you've changed anything since your last backup. Your apps restart from your latest backup, so anything newer than that is lost unless you run a backup yourself first.
  • Export your environment variables if you've set any.
  • Your addresses change. Your apps get the new datacenter's domain ending, so https://batman.elfhosted.cc becomes, say, https://batman.elfhosted.cafe. Update your bookmarks and any apps on your TV or phone, and reinstall your Stremio addons from their new manifest URLs.
  • Pick a datacenter close to you. The Datacenter page recommends the best fit for where you are. In North America, that's usually Beauharnois (elfhosted.cafe, Canada East). Quite a few elfhosted.cc users are actually in Europe or Australia, so this could be a good moment to move closer to home, too.
  • Don't leave it to the last day. Moving early gives you time to update your addresses and check everything works before the window opens.

Questions? Ask in Discord. We'll post here again once the exact outage time is confirmed. ๐Ÿง
