What is the JellyStreams Custom Domain Addon?
This addon lets you serve your ElfHosted JellyStreams server on a domain you own, for example tv.mydomain.com, instead of the default <your-username>-jellystreams.elfhosted.com address. Both addresses keep working, so the custom one is simply shorter to type, easier to remember, and friendlier to hand to the rest of the household.
It earns its keep on the sofa. Every Jellyfin app asks for a server address, and Odin, Infuse, Swiftfin and the official Jellyfin apps all ask for it on a TV remote. tv.mydomain.com is a far kinder thing to thumb in than a long subdomain.
How to set it up
- 📝 Decide on the subdomain you want to use (we recommend a subdomain of a domain you control, not a root domain).
- 🌐 Create a CNAME record pointing your custom domain to
<your-username>-jellystreams.elfhosted.com. - 🚫 Make sure any CDN or proxy (Cloudflare orange-cloud, Fastly, and friends) is disabled on that record. We need to terminate TLS at our edge to provision the cert.
- 💳 Subscribe to this addon and enter your custom domain in the required
cnamefield on this page. - 🔒 We provision a Let’s Encrypt certificate and route the domain to your JellyStreams server, usually within a few minutes.
- 📺 Add your custom domain as a server in your Jellyfin apps.
Requirements
- JellyStreams on ElfHosted, which comes with the AIOMagic Bundle and the Stremio Addons Bundle.
- A domain you control, with the ability to set CNAME records.
- No CDN or proxy in front of the CNAME (we handle TLS).
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my old elfhosted.com address stop working?
No, both addresses reach the same JellyStreams server at the same time.
Do I have to set up my devices again?
No. Devices already signed in on your ElfHosted address carry on as they are. When you add the custom domain to an app, it’s the same server, so your profiles, watch history and Continue Watching are all there once you’ve signed in.
Where’s the admin panel?
It stays on your ElfHosted address, behind your ElfHosted login. Opening /admin on your own domain takes you there.
Can I use Cloudflare?
Yes, but the record must be DNS-only (grey cloud), not proxied. We need to issue and renew the TLS cert against your domain.
Can I use a root or apex domain?
Subdomains are strongly recommended, since a CNAME at the apex breaks DNS in most setups. If you must use an apex, ALIAS or ANAME records may work, depending on your DNS provider.
What happens if I cancel?
Your custom domain stops reaching JellyStreams, and your ElfHosted address keeps working. Point any apps that used the custom domain back at it.
How long does provisioning take?
Usually a few minutes once DNS has propagated. Open a Discord ticket if it has been over an hour.
