Description

redis-cli is fine until you need to actually look at what's in the database. RedisInsight is what every Redis engineer reaches for when key counts get past "fits in head".

What is RedisInsight?

RedisInsight is the official, browser-based Redis GUI built by Redis Inc (the company behind Redis itself). It's the reference administrative tool for the Redis ecosystem — browse keys with type-aware visualisation (lists, hashes, sorted sets, streams), run commands with full auto-complete and inline help, profile slow logs, monitor memory usage by key prefix, and work with the Redis modules (RedisJSON, RediSearch, RedisGraph, RedisTimeSeries, RedisBloom).

It works against any Redis instance — Redis Inc's managed cloud, ElastiCache, Memorystore, on-prem standalone or cluster mode, sentinels, home-lab Redis in Docker. The connection is just a Redis client; RedisInsight doesn't care where the server is hosted.

Features

  • 🔑 Type-aware key browser — lists rendered as lists, hashes as field/value tables, sorted sets with scores, streams with entries; not just "everything is a string".
  • 💻 CLI with auto-complete — every Redis command + module command, with inline documentation, syntax help, and TAB-complete that knows your actual key names.
  • 🔍 Workbench / multi-line scripting — paste a Lua script, run a sequence of commands, save snippets for later.
  • 📊 Slow log & memory analysis — see which queries are slow, which key prefixes are eating memory, which TTLs are expiring.
  • 📈 Real-time metrics — connections, ops/sec, memory by db, replica lag (if applicable).
  • 📦 Module support — RediSearch (search index browser), RedisJSON (JSON document editor), RedisGraph (Cypher query runner), RedisTimeSeries, RedisBloom — all first-class in the UI.
  • 🌳 Cluster mode — visualise hash-slot distribution across cluster nodes.
  • 📥 Bulk import / export — JSON / CSV / RDB-snapshot import/export for keys.
  • 🔐 Multi-instance — manage multiple Redis connections in one session.
  • 🔓 Source-available, free for self-hosting — SSPL-licensed.

RedisInsight vs Other Redis GUI Options

  • vs. redis-cli — redis-cli is unbeatable for one-off commands and CI scripts. RedisInsight is for the visual / exploratory / "what's actually in this DB" workflows where the GUI is faster than the CLI.
  • vs. RedisDesktopManager / Another Redis Desktop Manager — those are open-source desktop apps. Worked great historically; RedisInsight has caught up on features and surpasses them on Redis modules support (search/graph/JSON browsing). Plus desktop apps don't help when you want to check Redis state from a phone or borrowed laptop.
  • vs. Medis / TablePlus — commercial macOS-only desktop apps with cleaner UI. Pick those if you live on a single Mac and want polish; pick RedisInsight if you need browser access (any device) or if you use Redis modules heavily.
  • vs. exposing a Redis instance's web admin to the public internet — running RedisInsight once on a managed subdomain is structurally safer than exposing each Redis instance directly. Your Redis servers stay on private networks.

Why Run RedisInsight on ElfHosted?

RedisInsight self-hosts cleanly (Electron + Node.js, runs as a web app), but the operational details around an admin-grade UI matter:

  • HTTPS with auto-renewing TLS — required for the auth flow and for not leaking Redis AUTH passwords in transit.
  • Single instance for multiple Redis servers — bring N connection strings; RedisInsight keeps them organised.
  • Your Redis servers stay on private networks (or behind tunnels); only this RedisInsight instance is publicly reachable.
  • SSO via your ElfHosted account adds an auth layer in front of RedisInsight's own login.
  • Updates handled — RedisInsight ships releases regularly tracking new Redis modules and features.
  • Persistent storage for connection profiles and saved workbench scripts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Redis providers can RedisInsight connect to?
Anything that speaks the Redis protocol — Redis Cloud, ElastiCache, Memorystore, Upstash, Azure Cache, on-prem standalone or cluster, home-lab Redis in Docker, k3s-deployed Redis, etc.

Can RedisInsight connect to a Redis behind a private network?
Yes — SSH-tunneled connections supported, so you can hop through a bastion host to reach Redis instances that aren't publicly reachable.

Does it work with Redis modules?
Yes — RediSearch (full search index browser with query builder), RedisJSON (document editor with JSONPath), RedisGraph (Cypher query runner), RedisTimeSeries (time-series viewer), RedisBloom — all first-class. This is RedisInsight's biggest differentiator vs other Redis GUIs.

Why does the WC product page say sold-out?
This product is currently provisioned by direct arrangement only (deployed for specific use cases rather than self-service). Page exists for reference; if you'd like a managed RedisInsight instance, get in touch via the ElfHosted Discord.

Is this the same as Redis Insight (with a space)?
Same product, different spelling. The canonical upstream name is "RedisInsight" (one word, capital R + I), per the GitHub repository and Redis Inc's marketing.

RedisInsight is Redis Inc's official browser-based Redis GUI — type-aware key browser, CLI with auto-complete, slow log analysis, full Redis module support. Connect to any Redis instance from a single managed subdomain so the Redis servers themselves stay on private networks. Currently provisioned by direct arrangement.
