RealDebrid posted on X detailing upcoming changes in response to legal action, and the debrid / stremio community is all aflutter.
What will we do in response?
Nothing.
Calm down.
We're adopting a wait-and-see approach, and the changes are likely not as bad as the doomsayers would believe.
But what are our options?
If RD's changes do have significant impact, then there are many alternatives - let's list them out:
TorBox
You can mount your TorBox library using rclone, and tools such as blackhole and RDTClient already support torbox. You might not get the flood of cached content you'll find on RD, but downloading works, caching works, and the platform will only get more mature with time.
Plus TorBox's dev, Wamy, actively engages with the debrid community and in our Discord, so you'll get a premium experience. TorBox doesn't compete on price though, so be prepared to pay more to get more.
DebridLink
DebridLink works like RealDebrid, and many Stremio addons which support RD also support DL. Within ElfHosted, you can either mount your DebridLink library via rclone, or subscribe to the product based on davdebrid, which lets you sort your library into "pseudo-folders" (Movies, TV, etc) like Zurg does, in order to maintain separate Plex libraries.
(DebridLink is also a french company, possibly subject to similar legal action in future)
AllDebrid
Another popular RealDebrid alternative, AllDebrid works much the same RealDebrid/DebridLink, except they flat-out ban datacenter IPs from accessing the API, so a self-service rclone mount won't work.
We have a design which implements a VPN-connected rclone "mounter", which bypasses this restriction, by using your own VPN credentials. There are a few more steps to enable it, but once working, the VPN bypasses the datacenter IP restriction, and you're able to access your AllDebrid content from your ElfHosted apps.
(DebridLink is also a french company, possibly subject to similar legal action in future)
Hetzner
Ha, didn't see that one coming, did you? No, Hetzner are not a debrid provider, but their storageboxes are very affordable, and are located in the same datacenter as our infrastructure, meaning transfer rates are good and latency is minimal.
If you're super-worried about loosing access to a critical subset of your RD library, you could buy your own storagebox, mount it with rclone (self-service), and download / copy the RD content you care a lot about using RDTClient or the rclone tools.
Rclone
Further to the above, the same process is true for any rclone-compatible cloud storage, now that we can provide self-service rclone mounts.
Stremio
It's possible to use Stremio entirely without RD, and almost all of the addons support multiple providers, for example Comet supports Torbox, AllDebrid, DebridLink, Premiumize, while Mediafusion supports all of those, plus every other debrid provider you can think of!
So in summary, take a deep breath, wait on actual observable changes before making impulsive decisions and inflammatory pronouncements of doom, and chill with us!
