It's been a chaotic few weeks for debrid users, with Torrentio facing a multi-day outage, RealDebrid removing cache checks and dropping rate-limits, TorBox struggling under the load, and now AllDebrid following suite, refunding users and dropping cached support 😿

For ElfHosted users, since existing RealDebrid libraries are unaffected, users have been able to stream their collections, but the loss of the cached checking feature has made grabbing new media a little slower (aars, plex_debrid), or completely impossible (Riven).

The space is changing rapidly, and developers are quick to adapt, but there's some uncertainty about the future, and users are rightly hesitant to wholesale switch their (perfectly operational) RealDebrid libraries to another provider in the midst of the chaos.

To "save the day" for our Elfies, we've introduced two new product classes - the "sidekick", and the "zurgling", and we're offering big discounts for Black Friday!

🐣 Zurglings hatch

A Zurgling is a fresh, feisty little ElfHosted stack, intended to attract displaced RD/AD/Stremio users.

A rising star in all of the recent debrid chaos is DebridMediaManager (DMM), which has been working on "crowd-sourcing" a cached database, adding functionality to DMM while RD/AD remove it from other tools.

A "Zurgling" is a Plex stack plumbed to your RealDebrid account, but without any Elf-specific automation tools (plex_debrid, aars, Riven, etc). You'd fully manage your RD library using DMM.

For many new users, a Zurgling is the perfect companion to DMM - they get the convenience of Plex, with the quick-n-easy curation of their RD library directly from DMM.

A few common questions re Zurglings:

  • Free trial? No, because they're so simple that they'd be abuseable, but we'll refund within 14 days if we can't make you happy.
  • TorBox / AllDebrid support? Yes, you can bolt them on, but be aware there's no mechanism yet (other than Zurg with RealDebrid) to "tell" Plex to update your libraries when new content is added.
  • Transcoding support? No, the load (even with hardware support) is too unpredictable on contented nodes, and impacts other tenants. As you would with Stremio, choose media which your devices will allow you DirectPlay without transcoding (hardware transcoding support is available on Hobbits and upwards).

🦸 Sidekicks kick ass

A Sidekick is intended to be added to an existing ElfStack, and includes a provider-specific mount (say, TorBox), and a provider-specific instance of plex_debrid. With a little CLI elbow-grease, the plex_debrid instance can be pointed at your debrid account, your plex watchlist / overseerr, and run around attempting to fulfill your requests against the new provider. What this gets you is an isolated, temporary solution to grab new content and expose it on your ElfHosted stack, from multiple alternate providers, until the dust has settled.

🛍️ Discounts, assemble!

Zurglings are already on sale (20% off!), and over the next weeky (until Cyber Monday) we'll be putting more products on sale.

Our store now supports "wishlists". In the backend, wishlists let us see which items are in-demand, so if you're after a product which is not currently on sale, add it your wishlist, to signal us that it's discount time!

The store may email you with an alert when items on your wishlist go on sale, but we'll announce sales in Discord and Reddit too.
