ElfHosted's mission is "self-hosting without the suffering". We run the servers, the orchestration, the updates and the unglamorous plumbing, so you get a reliable movie night without without babysitting a box under the stairs.
But it's still your stack, and a stack can have a lot of moving parts. Your own apps can wander off (a Sonarr that stops grabbing, a Plex that will not play), and so can the upstream services they lean on (a debrid provider having a moment, an indexer gone quiet, a Usenet server throttling you). Something goes silent, and the real question is usually just: which bit? Until now, the answer has been to scrounge through your app logs to find the culprit, or create a #elf-help ticket for the ElfVengers to do the same.. these are still valid, but now there's a faster first option...

Sam is an AI helper built right into your ElfHosted App and ElfBot dashboards. Click "Ask Sam", type your question in plain language (any language), and he gets to work on your actual stack: checking what is running, reading health and logs, and telling you in plain words what is going on. No jargon unless you want it, no guesswork.
What Sam can do
Sam is not a chatbot bolted on for show. He can see our internal docs, and your stack, and act on it:
- Explain what is broken. "Why is Sonarr not downloading?" Sam checks its health, its queue, and the reason each item is stuck, then tells you straight.
- Actually fix it. With a tap to confirm, Sam can restart an app, trigger a search for a missing item, clear a stuck download so a fresh copy is tried, or refresh your quality profiles when the old ones stopped matching.
- Answer the "how do I" questions. Sam has read ALL the ElfHosted docs (so you don't have to!), and he answers straight from them, so you get the real steps and a link to the page, not a confident guess like a generic LLM. When we update the docs, same gives you updated answers immediately. No more weird ChatGPT advice!
- Tidy your storage. He can tell you what is eating your space, find broken symlinks and stray files left behind by mistake, and clear them out when you say the word.
Anything that cannot be undone waits for your yes first. Sam proposes, you approve, and only then does it happen.
What Sam will not do
The clever part is what Sam does not see. Your apps hold secrets: debrid keys, tokens, passwords. Sam is built so those never reach the AI model behind him. Before anything leaves your stack we strip out the secrets, mask your username, and scramble file names, so the model can help you without ever learning who you are or what is in your library. The first time you open Sam he asks permission before anything is sent, and you can read exactly what is and is not shared in our privacy policy.
Sam only ever works inside your own account. He cannot see anyone else's apps, and nobody else's Sam can see yours.
He is called Sam for a reason
We named him after Samwise Gamgee, because that's who he is - the loyal companion who carries the load, keeps his head when things go sideways, and gets you through the quest. He is warm, he is patient, he has a weakness for a terrible pun and the odd Lord of the Rings nod, and he knows when to drop the jokes and just help.
