One does not simply run twenty-one apps. And yet if you’re on our largest Plex bundle, that’s what’s sitting on your dashboard. Most people use five or six of them and let the rest sit in the corner like a second breakfast nobody ordered.
So your apps page now has switches. Go to store.elfhosted.com/my-account/apps, turn off anything you’re not using, and press Save. Your stack rebuilds itself without them.
A tidier hobbit-hole
Turning off what you don’t use buys you more than a shorter list:
- A dashboard that shows the apps you actually use, instead of thirty tiles you scroll past to find Plex.
- A health page that stops flagging things you never set up. Red badges start meaning something again.
- Faster support. When something breaks, there’s less to rule out before someone can help you, and fewer moving parts to describe.
The quiet ones start switched off
Apps that hardly anyone uses now arrive switched off, rather than idling in your namespace forever. If you want one, it’s a click away on the same page. A few essentials, like your media server and your storage, have no switch and never will.
Nothing sails to the Grey Havens
Switching an app off leaves your settings and data exactly where they are. The app stops running until you say otherwise. Turn it back on next week, next month, or in a fit of curiosity at two in the morning, and it comes back as you left it.
The road goes ever on
- Visit your apps page.
- Toggle anything on or off. As many as you like; nothing happens until you save.
- Press Save. Your stack reconciles within a few minutes.
Bilbo complained of feeling thin, “sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread”. Your namespace has been making the same complaint for a while. Go and scrape a little of it back off.
