Managed Kept hosting: a home inventory for everything you own, where it lives, what it cost and when the warranty runs out.
Hosted Kept: know what you own, where it is and whether it’s still under warranty, with ElfHosted’s included AI to fill in the details from a photo.
Early Access
Kept is a brand-new addition to ElfHosted, and is considered beta. It runs, we test it, and your trial lets you check it fits before you commit. Our team is still building up experience with it, so lean on the upstream documentation, experiment freely, and share what you learn in Discord, where the community and team are working these new apps out together.
What is Kept?
Kept is an open-source home inventory. Record the things in your home, which room and shelf they’re on, what they cost and when you bought them, then keep the receipt, the manual and the warranty with each one. When something breaks, the answer to “is it still covered?” is a search away.
Key Features
- Everything in its place: Rooms, shelves and boxes, so you can find the spare charger without emptying the cupboard.
- Receipts, warranties and manuals: Attach photos and documents to each item and see when a warranty runs out.
- Snap it in: Take a photo of an item or a receipt and Kept reads it into a new entry for you to check.
- Search by meaning: Ask for “the camping gear” and find the tent, even if you never typed the word camping.
- Lending: Note who borrowed the ladder, and when.
- Consumables: Keep count of batteries, filters and light bulbs, and know when stock runs low.
- The whole household: Invite your family, and everyone works from the same inventory.
Works With
- ElfHosted’s included AI: Photo and receipt capture, the built-in assistant and search by meaning come ready to use, with no API key to find. An admin can change or remove the provider in Kept’s AI settings.
- Your AI assistant, through MCP: Connect Claude or another assistant to your inventory with a personal token from Settings, then Connections, or through Claude’s connectors. Tokens are scoped, so you decide whether an assistant can only read or can make changes too.
Why Run Kept on ElfHosted?
An inventory is only useful on the day you need it, which might be years after you start it. ElfHosted keeps Kept running and backed up, so the receipt is still there when the dishwasher gives up.
- Managed and maintained: Your instance is ready in minutes and we keep it updated. Sam, our AI helper, answers questions, and our team on Discord helps when Sam can’t.
- Backed up every day: Your database and your photos and documents are backed up daily. Restore to an earlier date from your ElfBot dashboard, or ask Sam to do it.
- AI included: The smart features run on an allowance included with your plan.
- Simple subscription: One flat monthly price with a 7-day trial, cancel anytime.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Open Kept from your ElfHosted dashboard. It asks for a six-character setup code to claim your instance, and Sam can read it out for you. Then create your admin account.
How does my family join?
Sign-up starts closed. As the admin, you invite each person from Kept, and they get their own account.
Do the AI features cost extra?
No. They run on ElfHosted’s included AI once you’ve claimed your instance. Prefer your own provider? Change it in Kept’s AI settings.
Can I support the people who make Kept?
Please do. Star the project on GitHub and report bugs upstream.
