Why migrate datacenters?
By default, your ElfStack runs in our Falkenstein, Germany datacenter. If you're far from Europe, migrating closer to you cuts latency and improves throughput on streaming, downloads, and remote-access apps.

- 🇺🇸 elfhosted.cc — West Coast, USA
- 🇺🇸 elfhosted.party — East Coast, USA
- 🇩🇪 elfhosted.com — Falkenstein, Germany (default)
- 🇫🇮 elfhosted.haus — Helsinki, Finland

How it works
- 💾 Every 24h your app volumes are snapshotted to cloud object storage by Volsync.
- 🔁 When you switch regions, your pods are removed from the source cluster and recreated on the target cluster.
- 📦 On startup, Volsync restores volumes from your most recent backup. If no backup exists, you start with a fresh volume — same as a new install.
- 🌐 Your subdomains automatically route to the new cluster.
Before you migrate
⚠️ Back up first. Migration is automated and irreversible after the 7-day rollback window. Follow the steps in the migration docs to capture any state that lives outside Volsync (custom env vars, in-flight downloads, etc.) before you switch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I roll back?
Yes — switch this subscription within 7 days and your original volumes are still there. After 7 days, source-cluster volumes are cleaned up and you'll either get the latest cloud backup or a fresh install.
How long does migration take?
Typically minutes per app, longer for very large volumes (since they restore from object storage).
Is there downtime?
Each app is briefly unavailable while it's recreated and its volume is restored on the target cluster.
How much does it cost?
Migration itself is free. Apps continue to be billed at their normal rate.
