Managed Dawarich hosting for your own private location history: maps, trips, and travel stats on your terms.
Hosted Dawarich: managed location-history hosting for people who want a Google Timeline that answers only to them.
Early Access
This app is a brand-new addition to ElfHosted, and is considered beta. It runs, we test it, and your trial lets you prove it fits before you commit, but our support team does not yet have deep experience with it. Expect some trial and error: lean on the upstream documentation, experiment freely, and share what you learn in Discord, where the community and team are figuring these new apps out together. If you need a battle-tested workflow today, our established apps are the safer pick.
What is Dawarich?
Dawarich is a private alternative to Google Timeline. It tracks your location history, visualises it on an interactive map, builds trips, and computes travel statistics like countries visited and distance travelled. You can share your location with family members, and integrate geotagged photos from Immich and PhotoPrism so your map shows what you saw, not just where you stood.
Existing history imports from Google Maps Timeline exports (via Google Takeout), OwnTracks, GPX, and GeoJSON, and ongoing tracking comes from the dedicated Dawarich iOS app or apps like OwnTracks and Overland pointed at your instance's API.
Key Features
- Interactive map: Your full location history, explorable and zoomable, on your own instance.
- Trips and travel stats: Countries visited, distance travelled, and trip timelines built from your data.
- Import everything: Google Takeout JSON, OwnTracks, GPX, and GeoJSON all come straight in.
- Continuous mobile tracking: The Dawarich iOS app, OwnTracks, or Overland feed your instance in the background.
- Photo integration: Geotagged photos from Immich and PhotoPrism appear on the map alongside your tracks.
- Family sharing: Share your location with the people you choose, and nobody else.
Dawarich in Your Stack
Dawarich pairs beautifully with Immich: your photo library gains a map, and your map gains photos. Add ntfy or your existing dashboard apps and it slots into the personal-data corner of an ElfHosted subscription, the apps that hold your life's records rather than your media library.
Why Run Dawarich on ElfHosted?
Location history is about the most personal dataset there is, and it needs an always-on endpoint for your phone to report to. ElfHosted gives it a permanent, private, maintained home.
- Managed access and support: Provisioned in minutes, kept updated with a fast-moving upstream, with humans on Discord when you need them.
- Plays well with other ElfHosted apps: Immich integration works over the internal network with minimal setup.
- Persistent config: Years of points, trips, and stats survive restarts and upgrades.
- Simple subscription: One flat monthly price with a 7-day trial, cancel anytime.
Works With
- Immich: Geotagged photos displayed on your location map.
- PhotoPrism: Alternative photo-library integration.
- OwnTracks / Overland: Battery-friendly background tracking from your phone.
- Google Takeout: Import your entire existing Google Timeline history.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I log in?
Dawarich manages its own accounts: on first launch it presents a registration page, and the account you create becomes the admin. Register as soon as your instance provisions.
Can I bring my Google Timeline history with me?
Yes. Export it from Google Takeout and upload the JSON files via Dawarich's import page; GPX and GeoJSON files import the same way.
How does my phone report its location?
Use the dedicated Dawarich iOS app, or point OwnTracks or Overland (Android and iOS) at your instance's API endpoint for continuous background tracking.
Who can see my location data?
Only you, plus any family members you explicitly share with. The data lives on your instance, not in an advertising company's warehouse.
