Halfling – Personal Media Streamer [16xHD / 8x4K, semi-dedicated]
$109.00 / month
Sixteen streams, eight 4K, on semi-dedicated hardware. The largest non-dedicated tier.
Halfling is the high-capacity end of the semi-dedicated tier — 16 simultaneous HD streams or 8 4K streams, designed for sizable shared libraries and content-shares with friends. The same configurable Personal Media Stack as the smaller tiers (your choice of media player, automation, and cloud storage provider) on hardware that’s reserved but not exclusive.
TorBox note: Choose a TorBox variation and a complimentary TorBox Essential account is included. Already have TorBox? Your existing account works too.
Debridge note: Debridge is the BYOK cached-only orchestration path for supported personal media stacks. BYO debrid accounts provide the routes Debridge can orchestrate.

What is Halfling?
Halfling is the high-capacity end of the semi-dedicated tier — 16 simultaneous HD streams or 8 4K streams, designed for sizable shared libraries and content-shares with friends. The same configurable Personal Media Stack as the smaller tiers (your choice of media player, automation, and cloud storage provider) on hardware that's reserved but not exclusive.
All the configuration heavy lifting is already done — your chosen media player is wired up to your chosen automation tooling and your chosen storage provider. You pick the variation; we run everything else.
Configure your stack at checkout: pick your media player, automation tooling, and cloud storage provider from the variation dropdowns above. Each combination provisions a tailored bundle.
TorBox variations include a complimentary TorBox Essential account. If you already have a TorBox account, you can use that instead.
Debridge is the BYOK cached-only orchestration path for supported personal media stacks. It is pre-wired through ElfHosted's internal Balrog integration. A supported debrid provider account is required, and BYO debrid accounts provide the routes Debridge can orchestrate.
How Halfling Configures
Halfling is a variable-subscription bundle. Pick one option from each of the three variation dropdowns and ElfHosted provisions the matching stack:
- 🎬 Media Player: Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, or Remux (Early Preview) — all available, switch any time.
- 🧩 Remux (Early Preview): choose Media Player: Remux with Media Automation: AIOStreams and Cloud Storage Provider: Debridge for the addon-driven build. That combination provisions Remux, AIOStreams, AIOMetadata and PostersPlus in place of the Radarr / Sonarr, Prowlarr, Seerr and Rclone half, and streams resolve on demand instead of being collected into a library first. Direct play only, so your player needs to decode the stream natively: native Jellyfin apps handle almost everything, web browsers are fussier and want AVC/H.264.
- 🛠️ Media Automation: Radarr / Sonarr (the classic *arr-stack workflow), Seerrbridge (a streamlined alternative), AIOStreams (the addon-driven path, paired with Remux), or "Other" if you'd rather configure your own.
- ☁️ Cloud Storage Provider: RealDebrid (BYO subscription), TorBox (complimentary Essential account included, or use your existing TorBox account), Debridge (BYOK cached-only orchestration path; BYO accounts can sit alongside it), NzbDAV (with a bundled Usenet/NNTP account included), or "Other" to bring something else.
- 📺 16xHD or 8x4K concurrent streams on semi-dedicated hardware, regardless of variation choices.
- 💾 No storage limits: your library lives in your debrid account or comes through your chosen Usenet path — you're never paying us for terabytes.
Halfling vs other tiers
Halfling is the largest semi-dedicated Personal Media Stack — built for shared households or sizable content shares with friends.
- Halfling matches Nazgul's stream capacity (16xHD/8x4K) on shared-but-reserved hardware. If 1080p hardware transcoding is enough, Halfling delivers the same throughput at a lower tier.
- If you need guaranteed performance under sustained heavy load — large shares, demanding 4K content, hardware 4K transcoding, no resource sharing — go dedicated with Nazgul.
Why Run Your Media Stack on ElfHosted?
Self-hosting a media server plus automation tools plus a debrid or Usenet integration plus reverse proxy plus authentication plus monitoring is the kind of project that's fun for two weeks and a maintenance burden for the next three years.
- No Docker compose to maintain, no rclone mounts to debug, no NGINX configs to remember.
- No "automation can't reach indexer" or "library scan stalled" troubleshooting at 11pm.
- Updates handled automatically across whichever combination you picked — media server, automation, storage provider.
- No storage cap to outgrow — your library lives in your debrid account or comes through your Usenet provider, not our disks.
- PlexPass / Emby Premiere (if your variation needs one) and your debrid subscription stay yours; everything else lives with us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which combination should I pick?
Defaults: Plex + Radarr/Sonarr + RealDebrid suits most users. Pick Jellyfin if you want to skip PlexPass; pick NzbDAV if you'd rather use Usenet (a Usenet account is bundled with that variation); pick Seerrbridge if you want a simpler automation workflow than the full *arr stack. Pick Remux + AIOStreams + Debridge if you'd rather skip the download-and-organise workflow altogether and stream straight from your addon sources.
Does Halfling include a debrid subscription?
Debridge variations include BYOK cached-only Debridge orchestration inside ElfHosted. Debridge is the BYOK orchestration path. Add your own Real-Debrid, TorBox, AllDebrid, Premiumize, or similar account when you want another route. TorBox variations include a complimentary TorBox Essential account, and NzbDAV variations include a bundled Usenet/NNTP account.
Can I switch variations later?
Yes — switching the media player, automation, or storage provider is supported but requires reprovisioning that part of the stack. Contact support to coordinate.
Do I need a Plex or Emby subscription on top?
Depends on your media player choice:
- Plex: remote streaming requires a PlexPass or Remote Play Pass — that's a Plex requirement, not ElfHosted's.
- Emby: remote streaming requires an Emby Premiere subscription — also Emby's requirement, not ours.
- Jellyfin: no extra subscription. Fully free and open-source for remote streaming, hardware transcoding, the lot.
- Remux: no extra subscription. Remux speaks the Jellyfin API, so the Jellyfin apps you already use connect to it directly.
Where does my library live?
Wherever your chosen Cloud Storage Provider keeps it. ElfHosted runs the apps and metadata; the actual media is held by your debrid (RealDebrid / TorBox) or Usenet (NzbDAV) provider. We don't sell terabytes.
What does "Semi-dedicated" hardware mean?
Semi-dedicated means a fixed slice of CPU and RAM is reserved for your stack — no contention with other users. Plenty of headroom for library scans and simultaneous transcodes.
Halfling is the largest semi-dedicated tier in the range — 16xHD or 8x4K streams on hardware that's reserved but shared. Step up to Nazgul if you need the same capacity on fully dedicated hardware.
Prefer it set up for you?
Everything here is documented, and the Discord community is free and generous with its time. Most people are running inside an evening. If you would rather skip straight to the part where it works, the VIP "White-Glove" Onboarding Experience add-on (purchased separately) hands the job to us.
You get a temporary private Discord channel with an ElfHosted expert. They will ask what you want from your instance, configure the apps to your preferences, connect them to any accounts you already hold, and close the channel once it is working. You do not need to arrive with a plan, and the configuration is yours to keep.
To get started, purchase the add-on, then open a VIP support ticket in #elf-help quoting your order number, and an ElfHosted expert will pick it up from there.
It is a one-time session, not a subscription and not ongoing support. It covers setup of software you are already subscribed to, which is to say nothing you could not have done yourself with the documentation and a free afternoon.
