Description

One search box. All your indexers. No more juggling API keys across every arr app.

What is NZBHydra 2?

NZBHydra 2 is a meta-search aggregator for Usenet. It connects to your newznab and torznab indexers and queries them all simultaneously. Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, and other arr apps connect to NZBHydra 2 as a single endpoint instead of each maintaining their own indexer credentials.

It also works as a standalone NZB search interface and as an external search source for TorBox subscribers.

Key Features

  • 🔍 Unified search: Query all your newznab and torznab indexers at once from one interface
  • 🔗 Arr stack integration: Single indexer endpoint for Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr, and more
  • 📦 TorBox compatible: Add NZB search capabilities to your TorBox subscription
  • ♻️ Deduplication: Collapses near-identical results across sources
  • 📊 Per-indexer stats: Hit rates, response times, and API usage across all your indexers
  • 🧩 Jackett and Prowlarr compatible: Works alongside your existing torznab setup

NZBHydra 2 with Your Stremio Setup

If you're running Stremio with Usenet-backed streams, NZBHydra 2 is the indexer layer that makes it work reliably. Connect it to UsenetStreamer or Jackettio to feed NZB results directly into your Stremio addon search — all on the same ElfHosted infrastructure, no cross-server config required.

Why ElfHosted?

NZBHydra 2 has one notorious self-hosting failure mode: config migration. Between major version updates, the database migration can silently fail — indexers appear to import successfully but simply aren't there when you check. The error "Unable to migrate config from config version X" is a recurring upstream issue with no clean fix other than rebuilding your config from scratch.

On ElfHosted, updates are managed and tested before rollout. Your indexer configuration persists across updates. You access it via your ElfHosted SSO over HTTPS — no reverse proxy to configure, no port conflicts, no migration surprises.

Technical Specifications

  • 📡 Newznab: Compatible with NZBGeek, NZBfinder, Tabula Rasa, DrunkenSlug, and any standard newznab indexer
  • 🌊 Torznab: Via Jackett or Prowlarr integration
  • 🔒 Access: Protected by ElfHosted SSO — no extra auth setup needed
  • 💾 Persistent config: Indexer settings and stats survive restarts and updates
  • 🔌 TorBox: Works as an external NZB search source

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I run NZBHydra 2 without self-hosting?
ElfHosted runs a managed NZBHydra 2 instance for you — no Docker image updates, no reverse-proxy config, and no config-migration disasters when major versions bump. You add your newznab and torznab indexers in the web UI, connect Sonarr/Radarr/Lidarr to NZBHydra as a single indexer endpoint, and ElfHosted handles upgrades and persistence. SSO is included.

Do I need a Usenet provider?
Yes. NZBHydra 2 handles indexer search and aggregation — you'll also need a Usenet provider (Easynews, Astraweb, UsenetServer, etc.) to download NZBs.

Can I run NZBHydra 2 alongside Prowlarr?
Yes, and many users do. NZBHydra 2 focuses on Usenet indexer search and manual querying; Prowlarr handles torrent trackers and arr app sync. They complement each other.

How does NZBHydra 2 work with Stremio?
Connect NZBHydra 2 to UsenetStreamer or Jackettio on ElfHosted. These Stremio addons use NZBHydra as their indexer backend to find and stream Usenet content directly in Stremio.

Is self-hosting NZBHydra 2 complicated?
The initial setup isn't bad, but Docker image updates, reverse proxy maintenance, and config migrations after major version bumps add ongoing overhead. ElfHosted handles all of that.
