Lidarr is the music arm of the arr stack — it monitors RSS feeds, connects to your indexers, and automatically downloads new albums from your favourite artists in the quality you want.
What is Lidarr?
Lidarr is an open-source music collection manager in the arr ecosystem. Like Sonarr and Radarr do for TV and movies, Lidarr monitors your favourite artists, watches RSS feeds for new releases, queries your indexers via Prowlarr or Jackett, and automatically downloads new albums to your desired quality profile. Your library lands in Navidrome, Plex, or Jellyfin ready to stream.
Features
- 🎵 Artist monitoring — add artists and Lidarr watches for every new release automatically
- 📻 RSS feed monitoring — grabs new albums as they appear on your indexers
- 🎚️ Quality profiles — set preferred formats (FLAC, MP3 320, etc.) and let Lidarr upgrade automatically
- 🏷️ Metadata & tagging — pulls artwork, tags, and album info from MusicBrainz
- 🔄 Automatic upgrades — replaces lower-quality files when better versions appear
- 🔗 Indexer integration — works with Prowlarr for unified indexer management across your whole arr stack
Lidarr in Your Media Stack
- 🔍 Prowlarr — manages all your music indexers and syncs them to Lidarr automatically
- 🎵 Navidrome — stream what Lidarr downloads; point both at the same music folder
- 🎶 MusicSeerr — let your household request albums via a Seerr-style interface that routes to Lidarr
Why ElfHosted?
Lidarr is notoriously the trickiest arr to get working. Unlike Sonarr and Radarr which match against TVDB/TMDB, Lidarr uses MusicBrainz — a community-maintained database with inconsistent coverage of non-mainstream artists. Getting a new artist to match correctly often requires manually linking to the MusicBrainz ID. The download client configuration, root folder setup, and indexer wiring are the same complexity as the other arrs, but the payoff (correct tagging + automatic FLAC acquisition) takes more initial effort. ElfHosted pre-configures the download client links and storage paths so you only need to add your artists and indexers.
- 🔗 Pre-wired download clients — no port/API configuration needed
- 📂 Storage paths pre-configured — root folder connected to your ElfHosted storage
- 🔄 Always up-to-date — ElfHosted tracks upstream Lidarr releases
FAQ
Why doesn't Lidarr find my artist?
Lidarr matches against MusicBrainz. For artists with inconsistent MB coverage, you may need to manually set the MusicBrainz Artist ID via the Lidarr UI.
Can Lidarr download lossless FLAC?
Yes — configure a quality profile that prefers FLAC and Lidarr will grab lossless when available, upgrading MP3 files automatically.
