Early Access

openGym is a brand-new addition to ElfHosted, and is considered beta. It runs, we test it, and your trial lets you check it fits before you commit. Our team is still building up experience with it, so lean on the upstream documentation, experiment freely, and share what you learn in Discord, where the community and team are working these new apps out together.

What is openGym?

openGym is an open-source gym and body-weight tracker built by Duarte Santos and its contributors. Plan a routine for each day of the week, then follow it on the gym floor: today's workout starts itself, last time's weights are already filled in, and a rest timer runs between sets.

Log your body weight next to your lifts and watch both trend the right way. Everyone in the house gets their own profile, plan and history.

• Routines and a weekly schedule: A routine per weekday or a rotation, starter plans you can edit, and sessions you can move to another day without touching the plan.
• Log any kind of set: Supersets, warm-ups, drop sets, timed holds like planks, and cardio by time and speed.
• Automatic progression: Pick a progression rule per routine or per exercise and openGym sets your next target, with a line on why it's that number. Stall, and it plans a deload.
• Exercise library: Thousands of exercises with pictures and animated demos, searchable by muscle on a body map and filtered by the equipment you own.
• Body weight and stats: A body-weight chart against your goal, an estimated one-rep max per exercise, PRs spotted as you hit them, and a year of training on one heatmap.
• Bring your history: Import from Strong, Hevy and FitNotes, and export everything as one file whenever you like.

• Your phone: Add openGym to your home screen from the browser, or install the Android app and pair it with your openGym using a one-time code.
• AI Coach: The built-in coach drafts a week of routines and later suggests changes based on what you've logged. You approve every change. Point it at the AI included with your ElfHosted plan, or at your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or OpenAI-compatible provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign in?
With a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint or your password manager), so there's no password to remember. openGym has its own sign-in rather than your ElfHosted login, which lets the phone app reach it.

How does my family join?
The first profile you create becomes the admin. After that, sign-up needs an invite code, which you create in the admin dashboard and hand to each family member. Each of them gets their own profile, plan and history.

Does the AI Coach cost extra?
No. Turn the coach on in openGym's admin settings and point it at the included AI (our docs show the fields to fill in). It runs on an allowance included with your plan. Prefer your own provider? Add its key in the same place.

Can I bring my old workouts?
Yes. openGym imports from Strong, Hevy and FitNotes, and Apple Health weight exports too.
