This app is a brand-new addition to ElfHosted, and is considered beta. It runs, we test it, and your trial lets you prove it fits before you commit, but our support team does not yet have deep experience with it. Expect some trial and error: lean on the upstream documentation, experiment freely, and share what you learn in Discord, where the community and team are figuring these new apps out together. If you need a battle-tested workflow today, our established apps are the safer pick.
What is grocy?
grocy is an open-source grocery and household manager, billed by its authors as “ERP beyond your fridge”. Log what you buy and grocy tracks the stock and the best-before dates, adds things to the shopping list when you run low, and shows which recipes you can cook from what’s already in the cupboard. It looks after the rest of the house too: chores, batteries, and the manuals for your appliances.
Key Features
- Stock and best-before dates: Know what you have, where it lives, and what needs eating this week.
- Shopping lists: Add items by hand, or let grocy add them when stock drops below your minimum.
- Recipes and meal plans: See which recipes you can make from what’s in stock, and plan the week’s meals.
- Barcode scanning: Scan products with your device camera as you add or use them up.
- Chores and batteries: Schedule household jobs and remember when the smoke alarm battery was last changed.
- Equipment: Keep manuals and notes for the things around the house.
Why Run grocy on ElfHosted?
The shopping list matters most when you’re standing in the supermarket. ElfHosted keeps grocy online so it’s there when you need it.
- Managed and maintained: Your instance is provisioned in minutes and kept updated. Sam, our AI helper, answers questions, and our team on Discord helps when Sam can’t.
- One dashboard: Sits alongside the rest of your ElfHosted subscription, no servers to run yourself.
- Persistent and backed up: Your data survives restarts and upgrades, with a daily backup.
- Simple subscription: One flat monthly price with a 7-day trial, cancel anytime.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I log in?
grocy sits behind your ElfHosted login and signs you in as that account automatically, so there’s no separate grocy password to remember.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in your phone’s browser, camera barcode scanning included. Mobile apps and integrations that connect with a grocy API key (such as Home Assistant) don’t work in this version, because your instance sits behind your ElfHosted login.
Can I track what things cost?
Yes. Record a price when you buy something, and grocy works out the value of your stock and what a recipe costs to cook.
