Optional Gemini-powered AI recommendations and TMDB/TVDB metadata. 1x 4K or 2x HD streams.
The streaming app you've been waiting for, without the Plex compromises. MediaStorm runs first-party native apps on iOS, tvOS, Android, and Android TV — no third-party clients, no transcoding subscription, no Plex/Jellyfin/Emby in the mix.
What is MediaStorm?
MediaStorm is a self-hosted streaming server with first-party native apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, and Android TV. It's not a Plex/Jellyfin/Emby fork — it's its own application stack with its own player ecosystem. ElfHosted runs the backend for you: pre-configured, always online, ready to connect to the content sources you bring.
Heads-up on app installation: MediaStorm's apps aren't on the App Store or Google Play (yet). iOS and tvOS install via Apple's TestFlight; Android and Android TV install via APK sideload. If you've sideloaded apps before this'll feel familiar; if you haven't, the MediaStorm admin panel walks you through it.
Bundled with a Usenet/NNTP account included with your subscription, plus support for connecting your own RealDebrid or TorBox account if you'd rather pull from debrid sources. Use one or both — Sonarr and Radarr-equivalent fetching is handled in the MediaStorm admin panel.
What's Included
- 📱 Native apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, and Android TV — first-party, not third-party Plex clients. Apps install via TestFlight (iOS/tvOS) or APK sideload (Android/Android TV) — not the App Store or Google Play, at least for now.
- 📰 Bundled NNTP/Usenet account with 150Mbps bandwidth — no separate Usenet provider needed.
- 🔌 RealDebrid + TorBox compatible — connect your own debrid account alongside (or instead of) Usenet.
- 🤖 Optional Gemini AI recommendations based on your watch history (free Gemini API key required).
- 🎬 Rich metadata via TMDB and TVDB — posters, cast info, episode guides (free API keys required).
- 📶 1x 4K or 2x HD simultaneous streams; bandwidth boosters available if you need more.
- 💾 No content storage on ElfHosted: all media streams directly from your debrid (RealDebrid / TorBox) or the bundled Usenet — only MediaStorm's metadata and config live on our hardware. You're never paying us for terabytes.
MediaStorm vs Plex / Jellyfin / Emby
MediaStorm is its own ecosystem — pick it instead of (not alongside) Plex/Jellyfin/Emby. Reasons to pick MediaStorm:
- You don't want PlexPass and don't trust Plex's recent direction.
- You want native, first-party apps everywhere — Jellyfin's mobile clients are still maturing.
- You like the idea of a single app that handles fetching + library + playback without the *arr stack.
If you want Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby with the *arr suite alongside, see the Starter, Hobbit, or Halfling tiers instead.
Why Run MediaStorm on ElfHosted?
Self-hosting MediaStorm means provisioning a server, running the backend, exposing it through a reverse proxy, getting a Usenet provider, configuring the indexers, keeping the metadata pipelines fed, and handling updates as the project evolves.
- Backend pre-provisioned and always online — no home server, no port forwarding.
- Bundled Usenet account with 150Mbps included; no separate provider signup.
- Pre-configured connections to TMDB/TVDB metadata pipelines.
- Updates handled by ElfHosted as MediaStorm releases new versions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Usenet provider?
No. A Usenet/NNTP account is bundled with your MediaStorm subscription. You can also connect a RealDebrid or TorBox account on top if you prefer debrid sources.
Does MediaStorm work with RealDebrid or TorBox?
Yes. Bring your own RealDebrid or TorBox subscription and connect it in the MediaStorm admin panel. Run alongside the bundled Usenet, or use it instead.
Is MediaStorm a Plex/Jellyfin/Emby fork?
No. MediaStorm is its own streaming application with first-party native apps. You don't run Plex/Jellyfin/Emby alongside it — MediaStorm replaces them.
How do I install the native apps?
iOS and tvOS apps ship via TestFlight (not yet on the App Store). Android and Android TV apps install via APK sideload or the Downloader app. The MediaStorm admin panel has setup links.
Are TMDB and TVDB API keys included?
No, they're free but BYO — sign up at TMDB and TVDB, paste the keys into the admin panel, done. Same for the optional Gemini AI key.
Need more than 150Mbps?
Bandwidth boosters are available as add-ons if you need more headroom for multiple simultaneous 4K streams.
MediaStorm is the streaming server for people who want a clean break from Plex/Jellyfin/Emby — first-party native apps on every major platform, bundled Usenet, optional debrid, and ElfHosted handling the backend so you don't have to.
